Uganda for the first time is set to join the rest of the world tomorrow Thursday to celebrate the International Widows’ Day which is marked every 23rd of June.
International Justice Mission, a Civil Society Organization will coordinate the celebrations at Mukono District headquarters, under the theme “Widows matter! Include them. Support them. Defend their rights to land and security.”
An estimated 259 million widowed women worldwide are exposed to various forms of abuse and persecution, ranging from property theft and eviction, to social isolation and stigmatization; forced marriage and prostitution among others.
