At least 30 workers repairing the East African railway in Bukaya, Buikwe District have blocked the railway line with sticks, tree branches and some have unplugged the rails.
The casual labourers their umbrella body ‘Arise Youth Community Group’ have laid down their tools in a two-day protest over wage arrears of five months.
Authorities in the district have condemned the workers’ act of blocking trains and traders much as it is their constitutional right to demand for their arrears.
The Regional Security Officer for Rift Valley Railways (RVR) Nodini Muzee has assured the workers that they will be paid within two weeks.
