The Uganda Army will today begin the evacuation process of the over 15,000 Ugandans mainly traders trapped in the ongoing insurgency in South Sudan.

The UPDF spokesperson Paddy Ankunda has confirmed that up to 30 trucks left for South Sudan on Wednesday and operations are to commence today.

Trade Minister Amelia Kyambadde says the government does not only aim at rescuing Ugandans but also ensuring that Uganda’s leading export destination is clear and safe.  Uganda is feared to lose 3 billion shillings daily due to the insurgency.
