The United Nations has hailed Uganda as the most performing country in the fight against HIV after registering a reduction in the number of people dying of HIV/AIDS from 63,000 in 2011 to 28,000 in 2015.
While addressing journalists at the government Media Centre here in Kampala, the out-going Executive Director of The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) Musa Bungudu noted that a recent survey shows that a number of people on Anti-retroviral drugs has more than doubled.
According to the UN report, close to 90% HIV infections are a result of unprotected sex. Majority of new HIV/AIDS infections have been registered in Wakiso district.
