East African Community member countries could lose billions of shillings should they open their markets to the European Union before they harmonize their own trade agreements, experts have warned.

 

According to Edgar Odari, consultant with Econews Africa in Kenya, pressure to boost export volumes by EAC member countries has forced them to sign treaties they benefit less from.

 

The concerns were raised at the close of the Regional East African Civil Society Forum, held in Entebbe.
