Agago North MP Morris OgengaLatigo has been arrested for encroaching on the area’s wetland .
He was later released on bond and instructed to stop any farming practices there or he faces criminal prosecution.
This directive was issued by assistant commissioner in-charge of policy and enforcement in the Ministry of Lands, Water and Environment Joseph Ongol after his team arrested the MP together with his workers and released them police bond on February 16.
Ongol said he had asked MP Latigo to visit the Ministry office in Kampala to check on swamp’s demarcation where he had encroached he refused to respond.
The Ministry of Lands, Water and Environment policy and enforcement team then stormedAgago district and arrested MP OgengaLatigo together with his two workers for encroaching on wetland.
Ogenga’s workers were found ploughing hundreds of acres of wetland in different locations in three Sub Counties of Agago using tractors.They were all taken to Kalongo Police station from where they recorded statements and were released on police bond.
Ogenga pleaded with the environment enforcement officers to release him since he had not known the demarcation of the wetland.
