The chief justice Bart Katurebe has launched an audio-visual link initiative where witnesses can testify without necessarily being present in the court room.

This is one of the initiatives the judiciary is taking to reduce the overwhelming case backlog. It is also intended to ease hearing of critical cases like rape and defilement where victims need protection.

The Director Public Prosecutions Mike Chibita has applauded the technology as one that will help many cases kickoff but has cautioned the judiciary to have a backup system.
