The Uganda Law Society has reacted to last month’s Constitutional Court order, stopping Forum for Democratic Change and its former presidential candidate Dr. Kizza Besigye from holding demonstrations today.

In a statement, the ULS newly elected president Francis Gimara questioned court’s decision to hear an application lodged by the Attorney General against FDC and Besigye in the absence of respondents.

The Constitutional Court on April 29 issued an interim order, barring Besigye and the FDC from activities of defiance.

Gimara has appealed to the Judiciary to refrain from “conducting itself in a manner that appears to undermine the enjoyment of human rights and freedoms.”
