At least 5,500 public servants risk are to be struck off government pay roll.

This follows a pay roll validation exercise of all public officers that was carried out in April this year.

The Minister for Public Service Mukasa Muruli says these are suspected to be ghost workers and they will not receive their salary for the month of July.

Earlier this month, the Permanent Secretary to the Treasury Keith Muhakanizi said most civil servants face ill fate for deliberately refusing to acquire national identity cards.
