Parliament has endorsed the candidature of former Vice President Dr. Wandira Specioza Kazibwe for the position of African Union Chairperson.
While meeting the speaker of parliament Rebecca Kadaga this morning at parliament alongside other legislators, Dr. Kazibwe reiterated the need for Africa to support its own economic and infrastructure development without having to rely on support from Western countries.
She further notes that her top priorities for the job will be to restore peace in war ravaged countries on the continent in addition to battling the issue of unemployment especially among the young people through supporting job creation.
Speaker Rebecca Kadaga in her remarks lauded Dr. Kazibwe for her service to the nation saying that credentials and work experience make her the most qualified candidate for this job.
The elections for the next African Union chairperson are to take place on the 17th of July in Kigali where presidents will elect the new chairperson.
