Uganda Media Women’s Association has launched a Gender Media Awards an initiative that seeks to reward practitioners in Uganda.
This will focus on different categories such as print media, radio, and television.
According to the Executive Director the women have not been recognized despite their roles in building the nation.
Vision group editor in chief who made a presentation on how the publication piloted training on gender sensitive journalism noted vision group journalists were trained in 2014 on gender sensitive reporting and the positive impact is already being registered.
The awards for the start will analyse stories written and published within a period of six months starting September 2016 to February 2017 and productions from selected media houses will be monitored to analyse their gender awareness, sensitivity and inclusiveness.
