- Rousseff says impeachment has no constitutional reason
Brazil’s Senate has voted to remove the country’s first female President Dilma Rousseff from office following months of an impeachment trial.
Sixty-one senators voted in favour of her dismissal and 20 against, meeting the two-thirds majority needed to end her 13 years in power.
Ms. Rousseff is accused of manipulating the federal budget in an effort to conceal the nation’s mounting economic problems, which she denies. Her successor Michel Temer has promised to heal Brazil after impeachment drama.
