Egyptian Hesham Abdelrahman has become a Grand master after winning the 2016 Africa Individual chess championship with a day left to the climax.

Hesham had to grit his teeth to secure the much needed draw against South Africa’s Daniel Cawdery in the ninth round.

Uganda’s Rajab Kamoga now stands in line of securing a Candidate Masters title pending approval from the World Chess body after scoring 2087 points.  The competition will climax tomorrow Tuesday with the Blitz Chess Championship.
