The young leaders are calling for a referendum on independence, emphasizing Hong Kongers’ right to choose their government.

This comes against a backdrop where more young people from the semi-autonomous city have grown increasingly vocal against China’s grip in recent years.

One of the youth activists, 23-year old Nathan Law says the results are and a miracle and indication that people want change.
