The Uganda Television (UTV) now Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) first hit the airwaves in 1963 just a year after Uganda’s independence.
The broadcasting house was situated in Nakasero just adjacent to the Nakasero Presidential lodge.
Interestingly, UTV was broadcasting only in black and white signals until 1975 when the then President Field Marshal Idi Amin Dada upgraded it to color.
As we celebrate the 55th Independence, Our Reporter Mubarak Mugabo speaks to the head of the Presidential Press Unit during Idi Amin’s reign Hajji Edris Mayanja Njuki and shared events on UTV’s transformation.
