Uganda Men’s Badminton Number 1, Edwin “The Black Pearl” Ekiring, will be playing at his last Ugandan International this month at the MTN Arena, Lugogo. The tournament is slated for 22nd to 25th February, 2018.
Asked on how he was faring ahead of the elusive tournament, Ekiring said, “I am training and getting (ready) for the Uganda International but it (will be) my last…” He added, “I am thinking (of stopping) with International level tournaments.”
The 34-year-old has not won the Ugandan International all through his colorful career, while winning rather frequently away from home, something that he has in the past put down to the too much pressure he exerts on himself for it.
The Netherlands-based Uganda retired due to injury last year when he looked destined to finally win it. It was later discovered that he had aggravated a past calf-injury he had reportedly suffered when he missed a step on an airstair.
He has now made up his mind to concentrate on his professional club career. He recently signed for Weiler-la-Tour in Luxembourg.
Players from 15 countries across the world have registered to take part in this year’s event.
